Government Approves Strategic Tourism Projects Worth 678 Million Kuna

By 28 September 2016

Outgoing government decides to expand the portfolio of strategically important projects.

During its meeting on Wednesday, the government decided to expand the list of strategic projects, which means that they will be implemented with shortened procedures and without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles, reports Poslovni.hr on September 28, 2016.

The two new strategically important projects are Punta Nova Campsite on the island of Pag and the Park Hotel in Rovinj. So far, the status has been given to just four projects: investment of Croatian Electric Company (HEP) in the reconstruction of the Plomin Power Plant, the construction of a container terminal at the Port of Rijeka, the construction of the Piškornica regional waste management centre, and the construction of a terminal for liquefied natural gas on the island of Krk, where a floating LNG terminal is expected to be built according to expedite proceedings.

The two new strategic projects have received permission to obtain this status by a decision of the Commission for Project Assessment more than two years ago, during the term of the government led by former Prime Minister Milanović. The government said the delay was due to the fact that it was only now that all the documents about the prerequisites for project implementation have been completed, after a process which involved several working groups.

The Punta Nova Campsite is an investment of the Nova Camping Company. It will be a five star facility, with 500 full-size camping positions, 85 additional positions, and 250 mobile homes which will be able to accommodate 2,200 people. It is expected that the campsite will employ 20 full-time and 145 seasonal workers.

The Hotel Park is an investment of Maistra from Rovinj worth as much as 539 million kuna. It includes the replacement of the existing three star Park Hotel with a new luxury five star yacht harbour style hotel. It is expected that the hotel will be open twelve months a year, and that it will have 190 exclusive rooms and 20 suites. A total of 85 new jobs will be opened in Rovinj.
