MOST Accepts HDZ’s Offer to Form Government

By 6 October 2016

Negotiations are over – HDZ and MOST will form the new government.

On Thursday evening, the MOST National Council announced that it had accepted an offer made by HDZ in the framework of negotiations on forming a government.

“We would like to inform you that the MOST National Council has adopted a proposal agreed by both negotiating teams during the final meeting held on Wednesday. The joint press conference is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon”, announced MOST.

According to unofficial sources, MOST has agreed to have four ministers and one deputy prime minister, while the position of Speaker of Parliament will be divided by HDZ and MOST for two years each.

Speaking earlier during the day, HDZ president and likely next Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said that his party already had enough signatures of support from MPs to name a prime minister-designate. He added that he expected to receive on Friday signatures from all national minorities MPs. It is expected that the government will initially also have the support of MPs from HSS and from the Bandić Milan 365 Parliamentary Group.

“We have put on the table what we think is realistic and fair”, said Plenković to reporters.
