Initiative which brings together a part of Croatian cultural sector comments on the appointment of new Culture Minister.
“Kulturnjaci 2016”, a initiative which brings together Croatian cultural sector, particularly those opposed to former Culture Minister Zlatko Hasanbegović, say that new Minister of Culture Nina Obuljen Koržinek has an extremely relevant biography for the position and expect that she will do her job in an inclusive manner, without ideological tendencies, and also that she will revise decisions taken by the previous government in the field of media, culture, and civil society, reports N1 on October 24, 2016.
“We believe that Minister Obuljen’s work should be judged by her actions”, said members of the initiative. They expect that she will approach culture as an area which goes beyond purely national boundaries, in which culture is used to create openness and freedom, and to encourage creativity and heterogeneity of different influences.
“Minister Obuljen has a very demanding job, due to the poor state of the culture sector. She should primarily focus on the review of decisions taken by the previous government, she should increase of the budget for culture, and she should also continue with the decentralization of processes in the management of the culture sector”, said Kulturnjaci 2016.
The initiative also reiterated its requests presented at a press conference in July, when they said that they expected that the person at the head of the Ministry of Culture should have good knowledge of the multi-layered and sensitive system of cultural and artistic creation.
“We also believe that it is of great importance that the actions of the Minister are based on dialogue with cultural workers and the respect for their proposals and requests, based on their experience of working in institutional and independent cultural sector”, concluded the members of the Kulturnjaci 2016 initiative.
