A Perfect Family Day Out at Camp Grebisce

By Ivana 10 August 2015
The closest I got to camping was sleeping in a car in a sleeping bag on our first night as refugees in Austria when I was six. For me, it was fun - can´t even imagine how leaving the country, home and the whole life with 3 small children was for my parents. Brave people, these parents of mine.

Anyway, that was it with my camping experience, somehow I never got to camp for real, not even when I was older.

Living in Jelsa, which has no less than 3 camps, almost every day I cycle pass 2 of them to reach my final destination in Grebisce, where the 3rd one is located. Surrounded by tents and caravans I got used to the relaxed atmosphere of a camping spot.

And I like it. I like it a lot.

The beach in Grebisce is really popular for families with small kids, as it is very shallow and sandy on top of that. And while the bigger beach in Grebisce is the one with sunbeds, floating volleyball court, coffee shop and lots going on, there is another smaller one, which is more peaceful and quiet, just as I like it with a little child around.

This Sunday we received a wonderful lunch invitation from our friend Natalija from the Camp Grebisce, so we decided to stay the whole day.

Arriving by bike from Jelsa, it takes us some 10 minutes. It is especially nice to dive in after biking in +35 and playing water-catch as a family is something we enjoy very much.

Just as we got hungry after bathing for 2 hours, we went up the hill to the outdoor restaurant of the camp near the reception. Although the camp is almost full, the relaxed atmosphere between those pine trees is amazing. Fresh fish was on the menu and it was delicious. Prepared in an open-air kitchen - very camp style.

After a quick thank you to the always smiling Anita at the reception, we went back to the beach to proceed with our main occupation of the day - soaking ourselves in the shallow water.

I watched my child being very content between those pine trees and I can imagine many families having a wonderful time camping in Grebisce. Enjoying the beach as much as possible while being outdoors all the time.

Camp Grebisce is a family-run business, where much love and effort are being put to every detail of this place, constantly improving and cultivating it, while leaving it very natural.

Love this place very much!!
