A Piece of Croatia Travels to Los Angeles

By 26 October 2015

A little Croatian piece of heritage arrives in Los Angeles.

More than 90 people gathered at the world famous J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles on October 23, 2015 to promote the island of Lošinj and its bronze statue, Apoxyomenos, at the Power and Pathos exhibit.  Sponsored by Lošinj Hotels and Villas, this private event brought in travel professionals from Los Angeles and its surroundings for a lecture, reception and viewing of the magnificent statue.

The event was organized by art historian and Lošinj Hotels and Villas Representative for North America, Nena Komarica (pictured), who addressed the crowd telling the story of the statue’s discovery in 1998, which was largely intact and it is believed to be the most striking discovery in the last 20 years in Croatia.

Historians believe numerous ships sunk in the Adriatic Sea leaving these treasures behind.  Today Apoxyomenos has traveled the globe in the finest care, but will return home after the world marvels at the masterpiece.  The island of Lošinj has so much to see and do for tourists and locals alike.  With a mild climate that contributes to good health, the gastronomy and five and four stars hotels in Cikat Bay, the destination will certainly bring lots of Americans in the future.  Jaws dropped when new photos of Bellevue hotel and the Alhambra Boutique Hotel were shown, a member of Small Luxury Hotels.

It was extremely exciting to not only have a piece of Croatia in Southern California, but to see the excitement of other travel professionals eager to visit the destination.  I have fond memories of diving in Lošinj in the underwater museum, gathering local plants for essential oils, and feeling more balanced and refreshed after my visit.
