Sanitation Inspection has shut the doors of numerous locales in Zagreb, unofficially around 30, due to smoking being allowed in areas where drinks are served
Bitter owners feel this is a revenge due to an announced protest against tax reform which will hike taxes on catering services from 13 to 25 percent, N1 reported on November 13, 2016.
Numerous sanitation inspectors visited Zagreb locales and, in case they established violations of any rules from the Law on Limiting Use of Tobacco Products, shut the immediately.
“The Inspection barged in and if they found drinks were served in a smoking area they closed the bar. No warning was given to owners, while guests were simply thrown into the street,” described a guest of a well known Zagreb pub.
The Law on Limiting Use of Tobacco Products does not provision immediate closing of a locale in case of irregularities, but a deadline to comply, as well as a serving of the penalty decision, explain caterers who found themselves targeted by inspectors.
Their locales have been sealed for eight days, regardless of the fact they pay all duties to the state. Caterers are also in fear of issues with suppliers and will the unforgiving market competition enabl them to regain the trust of guests.
