Poreč, Osijek, Opatija and Zagreb were also in the running to host this music event
23rd Croatian Music Industry Awards Porin 2016 will be held in Split. This was confirmed by the president of the Board of Directors of Porin, Tonči Barišić on December 16, 2015. Split was in the running along with 4 other Croatian cities: Opatija, Poreč, Osijek and Zagreb.
According to Barišić, after they reviewed all offers received, joint offer by the city of Split and Split - Dalmatian County was selected as the best one so this city will host the biggest names of the Croatian music industry on March 17, 2016.
"Porin is extremely important for Split, both as a music event and as the perfect event to open the pre-season. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host it for the second year in a row" said the deputy mayor of Split Goran Kovačević.
Split Dalmatian county also offered support to ensure the awards ceremony stays in Split "Dalmatia is the cradle of Croatian written word and music and that is why Porin belongs here, in the heart of Dalmatia. We did everything possible to ensure the return of this music spectacle to Split" said the County prefect Zlatko Ževrnja.
Given that Porin also means a full week of various music events across the city, it will definitely liven up the pre-season and serve as a good overture for what we hope will be another record breaking tourist season.
