Go Fund Me Campaign Emerges to Help Firefighters in Croatia

By 20 July 2017

The campaign is even trending on Go Fund Me!

Many of us have been looking for ways to help during the fires that have devastated Dalmatia over the last few days. While hundreds in Dalmatia forced themselves on the front line to battle the blaze themselves, hundreds of others across the globe have felt helpless but eager to give back to those that fought tirelessly to protect the homes, land, and livelihoods in danger across Dalmatia.

With the help of a Go Fund Me campaign that was launched on July 18, 2017, we are now given the chance to help, from near and far, to reward the local firefighters we owe so much to.

The campaign reads:

“Over the past few days, horrendous wildfires devastated the surrounding areas and villages around Split, Omis and central Croatian coast. Local firefighters and citizens have come together and worked night and day without any breaks to try to prevent the fire from spreading and destroying even more.

Despite their amazing efforts, the resources for our first responders are minimal and they are in dire need of our help. With the support of the Association of Croatian American Professionals and our generous chapters, groups and individuals in the U.S. and abroad, we decided to pool our skills, connections and resources to create a campaign dedicated to these heroes.

We have a team in Split - Lovre Viskota i Marijana Mijuskovic - who are contacting the head firefighting association in Split, as well as smaller units spread across the surrounding towns, to find out what would be of most help. Once we complete our fundraising goal, they will then use 100% of our funds to purchase an deliver those critical supplies to the local firefighters. They will also provide updates, along with receipts and pictures, which I will share with everyone.

Thank you, everyone, for your kindest help and support and please stay tuned for updates! This is a perfect example how we can take ownership into our own hands and do what's right for those brave firefighters that do so much for us, our families and for Croatia!”

Through 142 donations, the campaign has already reached nearly $11k of the $15k goal and has been shared across social media 1.8k times.

If you’re looking for a way to help during these critical times, here’s your chance.
