10th Kastav Blues Festival in Full Swing!

By 6 August 2017

You can still catch the two remaining nights of the festival!

Kastav, a stunning little hilltop town located near Rijeka, is booming with blues these days.

The 10th edition of the renowned Kastav Blues Festival started on August 3, attracting a large number of blues lovers night after night. The festival was established in honour of 'Philadelphia' Jerry Ricks, the famous perfomer of country blues who chose Kastav to be his final resting place.

Each year, the organising team makes sure Kastav gets filled with spectacular tunes, and this year is no different. The festival isn't tied to Kastav exclusively, but travels around neighbouring towns to make the most out of the mesmerising summer nights and to introduce good blues to as many people as possible. Kastav Blues thus kicked off in Kostrena on August 3, and on August 4, Croatian darlings Soul Fingers and Luciano Cianci & Band played in Matulji town.

Things are heating up as days go by, so Kastav got a proper show last night, August 5, with the vocal force of nature named Angela Brown.

If you're staying anywhere on Kvarner, you still have time to catch the remaining two nights of Kastav Blues: starting from 21:00 tonight, the town of Viškovo (on the outskirts of Rijeka) will host Mike Sponza from Italy and Sunnysiders from Croatia. The shows will be accompanied by a screening of Goin' Down South, a blues travel documentary.

Tomorrow, August 7, there will be a blues workshop organised in Kastav at 15:00, followed by a cinema evening meant to introduce the audience to the man whose legacy inspired the festival, 'Philadelphia' Jerry Ricks.
