International coverage for Dubrovnik's most well loved guide.
As Dubrovacki Dnevnik reports on the 25th of August, 2017, Dubrovnik's well known and much loved tourist guide Ivan Vuković Vuk began to stir the interest of foreign and international media, primarily because of his Game of Thrones inspired guided tours where guests are taken to various locations all over the city where the wildly popular series was filmed.
International media are naturally interested in the Games of Thrones phenomenon which saw Dubrovnik transformed into ''Kings Landing'' and thrust into the international spotlight, creating a true tourism boom. The rise in the level of tourism in the Pearl of the Adriatic has been to such a degree that the city has been having to seek ways to limit the crowds and ease the stress on residents, transport and infrastructure.
The issues surrounding cruise ships have been among the most talked about subjects in regard to this pressing issue, as well as the drastic ''shaving'' of the numbers of tourists allowed to enter the city's historical core at any one time after people counting cameras were introduced at all entrances into the walls, the move followed numerous serious warnings from UNESCO about unbridled and damaging masses of people inside the Word Heritage Site.
These are among the reasons why the Dubrovnik tourist guide gave statements for internationally respected magazines like People, TIME and El Mundo.
"We have become too popular over the last few years, we've become victims of our own success" Vukovic said, stressing that numerous Americans and Canadians are coming to Dubrovnik owing to the Game of Thrones series.
