7 Days To Go: Cavtat's Unseen Festival!

By 20 September 2017

Croatia's southernmost town puts itself on the cultural map with a mini film festival! Organised in an entirely unusual way, read on to see why you should pay Cavtat's Unseen Festival a visit.

As DuList reports on the 20th of September, 2017, from September the 27th until October the 1st, the mini film festival ''Unseen'' will be held in Cavtat, organised by the Center for Dramatic Arts, with the support of, among other bodies and institutions, the Municipality of Konavle.

The organisers, faced with the fact that Cavtat lives very much in the shadow of Dubrovnik as a cultural center and that there is no real space for filming in Cavtat, initiated the project with the desire to change the existing situation and to encourage local artistic production.

The concept of the event is designed in an unusual manner and unlike any other. The film program is presented in an unannounced way, at various locations in public spaces, capturing the attention of both local and international casual audiences, woth workshops and public discussions taking center stage at Cavtat Culture House. The festival will feature both domestic and international works. Public discussions with local artists on the theme of production and the presentation of contemporary art will take place and workshops for interested students will be held.

The festival opens with the screening of the films ''Kino Otok'' by Croatian director Ivan Ramljak and ''Friedenshöhe'' by German director Josephine Ehlert.

Selections of young creators/authors from here in Croatia and from the wider region will take place. Twelve will be short documentary, feature and animated films by those younger than 35 years of age. This program encourages the affirmation and exchange of audiovisual creativity and the movies will be shown in varied public locations around Cavtat.

The program is dedicated to the partners and guests of the festival, ''Restart'' from Zagreb, ''Dokufest'' from Prizren, Kosovo and the artistic duo ''SIMKA'' from Sweden.
