Who Dressed Dalmatian Firemen into Pink Bras?

By 15 December 2017

The fight against cancer was especially interesting in Croatia this year, thanks to Husqvarna’s firemen competition. The pink chainsaw took some effort to win, and the best sense of humour and creativity was shown by Dugopolje firemen

The handover of a pink chainsaw Husqvarna 450 Rancher to members of the Dugopolje firefighting team was the official end of the Chainsaw for Volunteer Fire Departments action. Members of volunteer firefighting societies were invited by Husqvarna to mark October as the fight against cancer month, with the bravest societies responding to the call and earning useful gifts.

“Around the world it is often firefighters who join in the fight against breast cancer. In various ways – from funny posts on Facebook, to wearing pink shirts or making posters in their settlements. We wanted to starts this lovely tradition in Croatia as well. The turnout may not have been huge, but we were very fond of every entry,” said Martina Drezga, director of the Drezga Company, representative of Husqvarna in Croatia.

Firefighters are surely the image of masculinity, showing that besides having the courage to fight fire they are also willing to take on other fights. The winners, Dugopolje firefighters, wore pink bras to prove so. This did not make them any less masculine, as a recent study undertaken in Croatia showed 73 percent feel it is manly to take care of a woman’s health.

“If in this way we enticed at least one woman to do a self-exam or register for a mammography, it was absolutely worth it. Of course, we also need the chainsaw and every piece of equipment means a lot, but we are people above all. And our female friends, wives, sisters and mothers can be under threat of breast cancer and this is why we participated,” said Bože Rogošić, commander of Dugopolje firefighters.

This donation rounded off Husqvarna’s donations to firefighting societies for 2017, with a total donation of 25 chainsaw and sets. The number of donations is even higher when including the partners – a total of 40 sets for volunteer firefighting societies, with a total value larger than 200.000 kuna.
