WWII Sea Mine Washed Ashore in Dubrovnik

By 16 December 2017

Along with heaps of debris, an old explosive device washed up on Banje beach

Banje beach in Dubrovnik got an unexpected visitor last night: a naval mine originating from World War II was washed ashore after a violent bout of jugo wind stirred up the local waters, reports DuList on December 16, 2017.

There's no reason to worry, though. The Police Department of Dubrovnik-Neretva County reported the site has been contained, and the preliminary investigation established the device in question is a WWII moored contact mine. Bomb disposal experts are currently working to safely remove the device. Not a sight you often get to see!
