The Rudarska Greblica Association was approved transitional national protection by the Agriculture Ministry for the cake named Rudarska Greblica through a geographic origin mark. This is the first such protected gastronomy product in Zagreb County
The Rude village has for 32 years held the “Days of Rudarska Greblica” manifestation, a traditional cake made for local miners by their wives. Today the restored St. Barbara mine is an attraction of Rude and nearby Samobor Town.
RUdarska Greblica can from now on be manufactured only in Rude and nearby villages, which are Cerje, Kotari, Braslovje, Prekrižje Plješivičko and Manja Vas. The method of preparation, recipe and final presentation must conform to the regulations found in the official document approved by the Agriculture Ministry. All Greblica producers must form a contract with certification authorities in order to control every phase of reparation, production and sale.
Rudarska Greblica is available in Rude, Samobor and in several healthy food stores in Zagreb. Buyers with recognise the protected product by the Agriculture Ministry mark found on the product declaration of packaging. Greblica is composed of baked hand rolled thin dough from wheat flour, pig fat, sunflower oil, milk, eggs, sour cream, salt, yeast, sugar and water, filled with fresh cow cheese.
Transitional protection is valid on the territory of Croatia until the European Union protection is acquired, the next step to be undertaken by the Association and Agriculture Ministry. The EU protects 1.592 products, 18 of them from Croatia, with another 5 in the registration process.
