By 20 December 2017

Fancy experiencing Croatia by train? Let one of British TV's most well known faces be your guide!

There is something about trains that seems to attract almost everyone, the sight and sound of them conjures up a sense of nostalgia in many and travelling by train, even during long distances, has never lost its timeless appeal.

Episode three of the fourth season of "Chris Tarrant's Extreme Railway Journeys" showcased the beauty of Croatia along with other countries in the region which were once Yugoslav republics. The episode premiered on the 20th of November, 2017 on the popular Channel 5 on British TV.

The series, the face of which is the unmistakable former Who Wants to be a Millionaire? host, Chris Tarrant, is already generating exceptional popularity, with the episode from Croatia having achieved a more than impressive 1.5 million viewers already. Channel 5 is otherwise a British national TV channel with content accessible online and ''On Demand'', owing to that factor, TV audience numbers will surely continue to rise.

The Croatian National Tourist Office for the United Kingdom and Ireland closely correlated with the Production team from Whitworth Media in creating such an exceptional show. However, the expertise of Zeljka Mircic, Head of Corporate Communications from the Croatian Railways has been invaluable. She was, along with the Croatian Railways team, a force behind the entire “Extreme Railways” operation.

Having established a very good rapport with Chris Tarrant and the team from Whitworth Media, they were were kind enough to provide their thoughts and opinions about their experience of filming in Croatia.

“From the historic splendour of the Hotel Esplanade in Zagreb, to the wonderful modern train that sped us across beautiful countryside all the way to Slavonski Brod, visiting Croatia was a real treat for me and the crew – what an amazing place. Everyone we met along the way had a real interest in the stories we were uncovering, and the hospitality we received was as warm as it was generous. A true gem of a trip! I’ll definitely be back!”–
Chris Tarrant, Presenter

“We were delighted to film in Croatia during the summer with Chris and the Extreme Railways crew. We received such a warm welcome and found Croatia to be an exceptionally beautiful country with fascinating history and culture.  It was wonderful to have the opportunity to showcase this relatively undiscovered destination to our millions of viewers around the world. Amongst the many highlights, we particularly enjoyed discovering in Zagreb one of the original steam locomotives that pulled Marshall Tito’s world famous Blue Train. A real treat for our audiences!”- Hugh Whitworth, Creative Director Whitworth Media

As previously mentioned, Chris Tarrant, OBE, is one of the most successful and recognisable TV personalities in the United Kingdom, regarded by many as the king of popular broadcasting. With his popular breakfast show on Capital Radio and his regular peak-time appearances on ITV, he's the biggest personality on UK commercial radio and has done wonders for the popularity of ITV's aforementioned Who Wants to be a Millionaire? show, which is now the world's most successful quiz show.

This show, made by a talented team and headed by a familiar face, is sure to draw the attention of people who have never even thought of Croatia to the country, creating a firm link between tourism and broadcasting which is sure to cement the Republic of Croatia into the minds of not only train enthusiasts and Chris Tarrant fans, but very many Channel 5 viewers.
