10,000 Masked Participants to Take Part in Rijeka's Carnival Parade

By 8 February 2018

ZAGREB, February 8, 2018 - The main parade of the 35th edition of the Rijeka carnival will be held in the streets of that northern Adriatic city on Sunday, and the organisers have announced more than 10,000 masked revellers in 104 groups.

The carnival parade will include 12 masked groups from Croatia and 10 from abroad - Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Montenegro, Serbia and Macedonia.

The parade will start at noon Sunday.

On Saturday evening, a carnival ball will be held and donations will be collected on that occasion for local associations of disabled persons.

The carnival parade marks the end of a festive season which occurs before Lent, a period of approximately six weeks observed by Christians before Easter Sunday. This year Lent starts on Ash Wednesday on 14 February.
