March 21, 2018 - Popular Norwegian writer Jo Nesbø is coming to Croatia to promote his new novel Macbeth
Norwegian novelist Jo Nesbø, one of the most popular thriller authors in the world, will be visiting Croatia from May 8 to 11 as part of the world tour promoting his new novel Macbeth.
The renowned novelist's visit is organised by the Croatian publishing house Fokus. Nesbø's take on Shakespeare's legendary work will hit the shelves at the same time as in all other countries where the novel is getting published.
Nesbø will make two stops in Croatia; he will speak in the Theatre Gavella in Zagreb on May 9, and in the City Library Zadar on May 10, announced the Croatian publisher.
Macbeth is a contemporary version of Shakespeare's 1606 drama, created as part of the project Hogarth Shakespeare that had eight contemporary authors re-writing famous works of The Bard to mark the 400th anniversary of his death. Apart from Nesbø, the project involves Margaret Atwood, Gillian Flynn, Tracy Chevalier, Jeanette Winterson, Howard Jacobson, Anne Tyler and Edward St. Aubyn.
Nesbø's version of Macbeth takes place in an unnamed harbour town at the beginning of the 70s. Shakespeare's King Duncan is the chief of police in this new take; Duncan employs former chief of special police Macbeth as part of his ambitious plan to clean up the city of corruption and local drug gangs once and for all. Macbeth will in turn devise a plot to overthrow Duncan and take over the entire city, setting in motion a dark thrilling story about the price people are willing to pay to rise to power.
