Yesterday's weather across the country was anything but usual. While some areas saw rain and clouds, others saw sunshine and blue skies - and one island, in particular, was pelted with powerful drops of hail.
May 17, 2018, in Croatia. The spring day in May was marked with temperamental weather and a pleasant daily temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. Though the swimming season is just about beginning on Croatia’s coast, some areas experienced weather extremes - and the island of Vis, the farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland, suffered a brief but blistering hailstorm, reports 24 Sata on May 18, 2018.
For a good fifteen minutes, pellets of frozen rain pummeled the heart of the island, and proof of the weird weather was captured in photos by Facebook page My Island Vis (Moj Otok Vis).
In most of the country today, we should see partly sunny skies, though the unstable weather will keep us on our toes. In the middle of the day and afternoon, the clouds are due to change, making short-term rain or thunderstorms in the northwest and mountain areas possible. The winds, however, are blowing at a weak to moderate pace from the northeast and northwest, and in Dalmatia to the southwest. The highest daily air temperature today should be between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, though it should be somewhat lower in the mountains, reported DHMZ.
Over the weekend, we will see sunny skies and warm temperatures, and the new week will bring clouds and some rain, but with similar temperatures to this week.
Let's hope this is the last hailstorm the island of Vis will see for a while so the swimming season can officially begin!
