July 31, 2018 — A day of mourning ends with a poignant scene. Oliver Dragojević is sent home to Vela Luka, one last time, by his family of 4 million.
Croatia rarely produces a veritable cultural titan. One who crosses the country's many boundaries, seemingly immune to the prevailing ideology of the moment, any moment.
Oliver Dragojević was that rare soul, who managed to draw together factions, and whole nations.
And today, Croatia took one last walk with Oliver along Split's famous riva.
And one of Dalmatia's most-famous sons was greeted by his fellow sailors and salty dogs.
After the procession through Split, Dragojevic's body was taken aboard the catamaran "Vida", offered by the state for the occassion, and followed off towards his home in Korčula by one of the biggest flotilla of hobby crafts and small boats Split have ever seen.
Oliver finally reached his hometown of Vela Luka, well after night fell. Catch a live feed of the event below.
