Remember Tihomir Orešković?
It seems that former Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković really likes the country to which he returned to lead it for a short time. He has recently bought the villa Misura in the town of Splitska on the island of Brač. The villa which used to be rented has 10 rooms which can be rented separately and a large courtyard, and is located in the third row of houses from the sea, reports 24sata.hr on August 29, 2018.
According to media information, Orešković paid for it a bit less than half a million euro (about 3.75 million kuna). The former prime minister refused to provide any details. “This is my private affair and I will not comment on the price or anything else about the villa,” Orešković said.
Locals said that this year the villa was not rented at all because it was put on sale. Orešković has bought the property from the company called Surel, owned by Elena Surova from Russia. The former prime minister, who is best remembered for his unusual usage of Croatian language and a speedy collapse of his cabinet, has not yet been registered as an owner.
“He has been here several times to visit, and we are glad that he has bought the property,” said one of the locals. The other explained that the villa was bought as a rental by the Mišura family, but the wife died so they had to sell it.
At first glance, it is obvious that the villa was not maintained this summer and did not receive any guests. The rooms are not luxuriously furnished but are typical apartments for individual rentals.
Orešković was prime minister for a short time in early 2016, when he was appointed prime minister by the then ruling HDZ-MOST coalition, even though he was completely unknown to most Croats. He had left Croatia in childhood and developed a successful international business career in the pharmaceutical industry, which left him with just a rudimentary knowledge of the Croatian language. As prime minister, he did not have much authority and his government collapsed after just six months.
After leaving his post, Orešković returned to the Teva pharmaceutical company, but soon left it and returned to Croatia. It is not known what he is now doing and whether the villa will be used solely for the accommodation of him, his wife and four children, or will they perhaps rent it.
Money is not a problem for the family because Orešković has large savings as a former highly-ranked manager in the pharmaceutical industry. Before he became prime minister, he bought a 248-square-metre apartment in the centre of Zagreb. After the renovation, he estimated that it was worth 5.5 million kuna.
Orešković likes to spend time on the coast. While he was prime minister, he vacationed in the state-owned villa Costabella. It was reported that the cost was as much as 100,000 kuna, but he denied it. He later paid 18,000 kuna to the state to cover his expenses.
