Day Off for Employees Who Are Parents of First-Grade Students

By 31 August 2018

Will other companies follow?

The new school year begins on Monday, September 3, and the Konzum retail chain has decided to enable all of its employees who are parents of first-grade pupils of elementary schools to spend the day with their children, reports Agrobiz.hr on August 31, 2018.

All workers employed by Konzum, whose children will start the first grade of elementary schools, will get a paid day off on Monday when the new school year begins. The company says that the first day of school is one of the most important ones in the lives of all children and, in order for it to be a positive one, filled with good emotions and enthusiasm, it is important that parents and families provide their support.

“We all remember our first day of school, a kiss from our parents and a full classroom of children, some of whom later became our friends for life. Our wish is for all the children to enter the exciting world of learning and acquiring knowledge with the support of their parents and immediately share with them their initial experiences. That is why all our employees who have children starting a primary school will get a paid day off, so they can spend time with their children while they enter a new, exciting part of their lives,” said Slavko Ledić, CEO of Konzum, Croatia’s largest retail chain.

The day off for first-grader parents was first instituted by Konzum two years ago. In the previous two years, 787 employees have decided to take the opportunity to be with their children. This year, it is expected that 275 employees, who are parents of 283 children going to the first grade, will not come to work on Monday.
