Mediterranean Coast Day Marked with Vibrant Program Full of Events

Mediterranean Coast Day is celebrated on September 25th. 

September 22, 2018 - The Mediterranean Coast Day celebration, which began on September 15th at the Split City Museum with the opening of Stipe Surać’s "Legends of the Mediterranean" exhibition, continues during the weekend with many events in Split and the surrounding area, organized by a number of associations, institutions and their partners. The Central Assembly on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the "Coastal Management Center" (PAP/RAC), the Mediterranean Action Plan will be held on Tuesday, September 25th, when Mediterranean Coast Day is officially celebrated. 

The events accompanying this year's Mediterranean Coast Day have officially put Split at the center of events and celebrations organized by the Coastal Management Center - PAP/RAC, aimed at addressing the new challenges that emerged in Mediterranean countries due to economic growth and tourism development.

The richest part of the weekend program is held in Strossmayer Park (Đardin) and begins on Saturday at 10:00. Along with the booths of all participants who will present their activities, visitors will be able to see the exhibition "Cultural Landscapes of Kaštela 1960 - 2016" organized by the Museum of the City of Kaštela. The author is the museum advisor Sanja Acalija, and the exhibition consists of large-format photographs taken from the air during the 1960s, and video and audio recordings of today's Kaštela with protagonists dr.sc. Ivo Babić, Ph.D. Tonči Buric, prof. Ivno Bućan, Mr. Milivoj Novak and Mr. Ante Vuletina. Students from the Department of Urban Planning from the Split Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy will present their works on "Kaštela 2100", while students from the Gymnasium Vladimir Nazor will broadcast news from the future, focusing on traffic and public space in the coastal area of Kaštela.

For the youngest, where the world of environmental conservation is in future, a number of educational workshops are planned. Members of the Rostrum Maritime Activities Association will hold a workshop titled "The Secrets of Croatia Underwater” in the Maritime Museum on Saturday morning, and there will be workshops organized by the Association of Small Philosophies "Anuška, sredozemna medvjedica" and "Photo Hunting”, the quiz "What do I know about the Mediterranean", as well as the "Mediterranean" tournament (an educational game about the sea and the coastal area). Strossmayer Park will also boast ReCan bicycle, the Society ‘Sunce’ will organize a bicycle tour on Sunday starting at 4:00 pm while the cycling alka will follow. Sunce will educate visitors on the theme of waste in the sea.

The PAP/RAC, the Croatian Hydrographic Institute, the Department of Tourism and Maritime Studies of Split-Dalmatia County, RERA, the Department of Marine Studies and the Faculty of Economics and Maritime Studies, the Blue World Institute, CEDRA, and the Sunce Society will present their activities, thematic projects and publications on promotional stands.

As part of the project "Pomorsko je dobro!" organized by the Department for Tourism and Maritime Affairs of Split-Dalmatia County, a video installation of the sea will be installed at Pjaca on Sunday, September 23, Monday, September 24 and Tuesday, September 25 in the evening. 

All presentations and workshops in Đardin will also be held on Tuesday, September 25 in the afternoon.
