Chinese News Agency Films Report on “Yugo” Cars in Zagreb

By 4 October 2018

Xinhua says that Yugo has become a tourist attraction in the Croatian capital.

The interest in Yugo, for many one of the worst cars of all time, is still strong. The Chinese state news agency Xinhua has released a short video report about a company renting these cars in Zagreb, reports Poslovni.hr on October 4, 2018.

Xinhua says that Yugo has become a tourist attraction in the Croatian capital. They say that it is a car that, thanks to its low price, was one of the most popular cars in the former Yugoslavia, which is actually a quite questionable statement given the numerous other models of cars popular in the former Yugoslavia.

“For us, Yugo was never just a car. For those of us living in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Yugo is a member of the family, Yugo is our best friend,” says Antonija Buntak, the owner of the AB Travel agency and the founder of the YUGOcar Adventure company.

The company offers two one-day trips – one to Kumrovec, the birthplace of former Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito, and the other to the Rimac Automobili factory near Zagreb.

It has three Yugo cars which it offers to its clients, Božo, Zagi and Žuti, which were produced between 1987 and 1989. According to the information on the website, a rental for four hours is 49 euro, for 10 hours is 79 euro, and for 24 hours is 109 euro. Clients have to pay a deposit of 300 euro which is returned if the car is returned without any damage.
