ZAGREB, 16 August, 2022 - The University Hospital Centre in the biggest Croatian coastal city of Split will this year set up a genetic counselling office that will provide opportunities for testing for hereditary cancers.
The genetic counselling, which will be opened this autumn, will be within the molecular pathology laboratory of the Department of Pathology and Cytology.
Thus, the counselling will perform diagnostic testing for healthy persons who are members of the families in which some hereditary cancers appear to run.
The head of the Department of Pathology and Cytology, Nenad Kunac, explains that, for instance, a member of the family where breast cancers have already been diagnosed will be given an opportunity to undergo testing for inherited BRCA1 or BRCA2.
