Glamping? Europe has only four such producers.
Kupole, a Zagreb-based producer of geodesic domes for various events, is finalising its new product for glamorous camping – a glamping dome manufactured right here in Croatia, reports Poslovni.hr on April 6, 2016.
The first Croatian glamping dome is furnished with pieces by Croatian designers and manufacturers and it will be exhibited as a part of the Zagreb Design Week, to be held 3 to 8 May. This summer, it will be located on the one of the islands in the Šibenik archipelago.
Jakša Borić from Kupola does not want to reveal the name of the island or which Croatian company will be the first one to install the glamping dome. "We have received inquiries from various companies, but we cannot as of yet reveal their names. Companies will be able to get a dome they like from us, as everyone has their own ideas regarding the setup and the degree of luxury. They will get the finished product that will be equipped exclusively with the products made by Croatian companies", said Borić.
Kupole is the only manufacturer of the geodesic domes in the region, while in Europe there are only four such producers. Borić said that the geodesic dome is a competitive product when it comes to camps, because it is being treated as a tent; it does not need foundations or the building permit, and can withstand gusts of wind of up to 90 kilometres per hour.
The geodesic dome is the most stable structure ever designed, as well as the lightest and strongest, the Kupole explains on its website. The first person to use the geodesic sphere features for construction purposes was American architect, designer and innovator Buckminster Fuller.
After years of experience in technical production, Kupole wanted to produce an innovative, technically perfect and aesthetically valuable product. In 2008, their first dome became reality. Afterwards, they started developing new domes of different dimensions that can be used for different purposes.
