An App for High School Graduates, Made by a High School Graduate

By 16 May 2016

The free app lets you check your knowledge for Croatian language exams.

This year, high school graduates will have an opportunity to use a mobile app to prepare for the final Croatian language exam. Tomislav Grbavac, who studies international business at the American College in Zagreb, created the app last year for his own use, and this year he released it so that all high school graduates who want to try it can do so for free, reports Večernji List on May 16, 2016.

“Last year, when I was finishing high school, I was preparing for the state exams using the tests that high school students had to solve in the previous years. But, the printing of the materials, solving the problems and checking the tests for correct answers lasted very long. And in the end, I had to add it all up and compute the average result. I thought ‘there might be an app for this’, but there actually wasn’t one. So, I created it myself”, said Tomislav.

The app “Državna Matura” which he developed consists of tests from the National Centre for External Evaluation of Education. “They let me use their content. The app contains all the Croatian language tests that have been used before. You only have to enter the app, click on ‘previous exams’, choose the year and the test level, and the questions automatically start appearing. When you solve all of them, you press X and the answers are displayed, together with information about your results, time, and the percentages”, Tomislav explained.

The app can be used anywhere and at any time. There is also an option to randomly choose several questions and solve them. Tomislav is now planning to create additional apps by this fall in order to include all other subjects that are part of the state final exams. He is still mulling over how to make an app for mathematics, as that one would be much more demanding compared to apps for other subjects. “The math app does not include only questions and answers, it also involves the solving process, and it is, therefore, a bit more complicate”, he pointed out.
