Solin Gets Charging Station for Electric Vehicles

By 13 December 2017

The ELEN charging station network expands.

The Croatian Electric Company (HEP) has officially inaugurated a new ELEN electric vehicle charging station in Solin, located in the parking lot next to the Kraljice Jelene Primary School, reports Večernji List on December 13, 2017.

The ELEN charging station was opened by Solin Mayor Dalibor Ninčević and Domagoj Puzak, the eMobility team leader at the HEP Group. The charging station was constructed as part of an agreement on cooperation, with Solin giving the company the right to use the parking lot, while HEP bought, installed and commissioned the charging station with the technical support of Elektrodalmacija Split.

The Solin charging station enables simultaneous charging of two vehicles with the AC mode3 type2 model. The charging lasts between one to four hours, depending on the battery status of the car and the inverter type in the car itself. At the moment, the charging at ELEN stations is free, but it is possible only with an RFID identification card, which can be obtained by all electric vehicle owners in Croatia.

Up to now, HEP has set up and commissioned approximately 50 public ELEN charging stations, in cooperation with towns and interested partners. Over the next few years, HEP plans to build an ELEN network throughout Croatia and establish a system of their remote management and monitoring. Also, through co-financing from the European Union, HEP is preparing to open fast charging stations on the TEN-T corridor motorways.

The Croatian Electric Company (HEP) was the first major company in Croatia which recognised the European trend of introducing elements of sustainable development in the energy and transport sectors. For this reason, it has launched the electric-mobility development project together with interested towns, local self-government units and all other parties that have the interest and desire to modernise the public and private transport and contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and to the environmental protection.

At the end of 2016, HEP was awarded the title of the Alternative Fuel Ambassador for its eMobility development project and the promotion of electromobility in Croatia.
