Podgora Fire Under Control: New Fire at Gornji Tucepi (VIDEO)

By 19 June 2017

A second forest fire breaks out in Dalmatia in the early hours of June 19, 2017, as 800 tourists are evacuated from hotels in Tucepi.

TCN's resident Makarska Riviera correspondent Vice Rudan has been out and about and brings us the sad news that a second, independent fire broke out overnight above the village of Gornji Tucepi, at about 02:30 this morning. See videos below, taken between 06:30 and 07:00.

The first, which comes just a night after the big fire near neighbouring Podgora, brought the evacuation of some 800 tourists from hotels Neptun, Tamaris and Jadran in Tucepi on the coast. The danger of the first to the resort has now passed, and all tourists are expected to return soon, and the fie itself is now burning further up the Biokovo mountain.

A strong bura is hampering efforts to put out the fire, but the Canadair firefighting aircraft are expected to be tackling the blaze from above shortly.

Two separate fires which started in the same area independently, both in the early hours. A coincidence or is there another explanation?
