Over 33kg of Marijuana seized in Slavonski Brod - Second seizure in a week

According to reports, the marijuana originated in Eastern Europe and was intended for sale ''on the market'' within the European Union.

As 24sata reports on the 30th of June, 2017, this is the second drug seizure in a week in Slavonia.

On Thursday at around 19:30 police and customs officers at the border crossing in Slavonski Brod came across a 35 year old Montenegrin citizen who was attempting to smuggle large amounts of marijuana into Croatia at the border with neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina in his car.

Upon inspecting the car which was registered in Montenegro, officers noticed significant aesthetic alterations in the undercarriage of the vehicle, and they suspected the man, who had driven from BiH, was smuggling illegal substances and/or objects. The suspicion was confirmed after the vehicle was properly searched on the basis of the Order of the County Court. In the space below the driver and passenger seats, 35.53 kilograms of marijuana were discovered, packed in 64 packs and sealed with self-adhesive PVC foil.

According to a statement from Kata Nujic, a spokesperson for PU Brod-Posavina, the driver was handed over to the custody supervisor of the Brod-Posavina Detention Center under suspicion of the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking and Drug Trafficking.

According to sources, the marijuana originated from Eastern Europe and was intended for sale within the European Union. This is a second largest drug seizure in the past week.

Last weekend, a massive 164 kilos of marijuana was discovered in a similar situation during an inspection. Police and customs officers of this police administration have seized more than 250 kilograms of marijuana and 10 kilograms of heroin so far, with the largest number of smugglers allegedly being Montenegrin citizens.
