Croatian Mountain Rescue Service: ''Drinking Alcohol Isn't Hydrating, It's Getting Drunk!''

By 1 August 2017

HGSS does it again...

In recent weeks, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) has issued some comical yet serious warnings to tourists on social media, namely on Twitter and on their Facebook page. Written in excellent English and with amusing hints and even funnier hashtags, we have seen everything from warnings to tourists to not even attempt to scale huge mountains in flip flops to letting people know that the islands off the coast aren't quite as close as they seem and to not to attempt to swim over to them from the mainland.

HGSS has now taken to the internet to remind people of the newest scientific discoveries which apparently, many people still don't quite accept - drinking alcohol is actually not hydrating! Would you believe that?! It seems many are still in shock.

In their warning to tourists about the heat wave Croatia has been and is set to continue to experience over the coming days and weeks, HGSS remind people that water is really the only thing you should be drinking, particularly if you're going to attempt to ''reach the summit'' as it were, of a mountain or two.

The service has already warned tourists about the dangers of drinking alcohol instead of water, but owing to the hellish heat wave that is set to hit Croatia at any moment, it only seems appropriate that the warning is issued once again.
