The recently announced heatwave is knocking on our door today: the whole country is roasting at temperatures between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius, reports Index on August 1, 2017.
Dubrovnik was the first to get a taste of upcoming hellish weather conditions: at 8 in the morning, 32.5 degrees Celsius were measured at Dubrovnik Airport. Closely following were Mljet with 31.8°C, Lastovo and Split Airport with 31°C and Split with 30.4°C. Zagreb had it a bit better with 25.4°C, Osijek had 23.9°C, and Rijeka measured 27.4°C.
The whole coast will see an average temperature of 32 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, while inland Dalmatia could reach 37 degrees Celsius.
Things won't change much for the rest of the week: continental Croatia will get a daily average between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius, dropping to 20 degrees Celsius overnight. We can expect sunny and stable weather on the coast as well, with an announced daily maximum of 35 degrees Celsius.
A major part of the country is marked as orange on the heat index today, and will be turning into red tomorrow for the areas of Split, Gospić, Karlovac and Rijeka. It's a thing to take seriously, as temperatures could exceed 40 degrees Celsius before the weekend rolls around. Let us repeat once again: stay out of the sun between 11:00 and 17:00 and stay hydrated.
