Video: Villages near Imotski Defended from Fire, Area Still Ablaze

By 2 August 2017

A fire broke out in Imotski area again, near the Red Lake. The Ministry of Defence announced that two canadairs have been sent to the site to help battle the blaze, reports Index on August 2, 2017.

The villages of Rašići, Živanovići and Jažići are in immediate danger, but the Fire Department Imotski stated all inhabited places were sucessfully defended from fire and that houses aren't endangered.

Without the canadairs, it would be impossible to stop the blaze that's spreading with incredible speed. The dry pine forest is burning in flames taller than 30 metres. The firemen were helped by a helicopter, as well as the locals who defended their homes from the fire. You can see the extent of the fire in the video below:

The FD Imotski expects to localise the fire soon.

The first fire near Imotski broke out on Monday afternoon, and had the firefighters soaking the forest edges throughout the night.
