A close call on the island of Lastovo this morning!
As Dubrovacki Dnevnik reports on the 20th of August, 2017, 112 Dubrovnik received a report at 06:24 this morning that a wildfire caused by lightning had broken out close to Hotel Solitudo on Lastovo.
According to DVD Lastovo, the fire was localised at around 7:15 and extinguished completely a couple of hours later at 09:20. Five firefighters from DVD Lastovo and 6 firefighters from other areas came to assist in putting out the fire.
The wildfire, which had the potential to become just as devastating as the ones we have recently seen in Podgora and Split, came dangerously close to Lastovo's Hotel Solitudo but fortunately the only damage caused was to shrubbery and other low sitting vegetation. The burned surface area was about 150 X 30 m.
No further damage or injury has been reported.
