Wildfire Extinguished Along Croatian-Montenegrin Border

By 21 August 2017

A close call as another fire with a potential threat to Konavle is extinguished.

As Dubrovacki Dnevnik reported on the 21st of August, 2017, Dubrovnik's emergency services received a call to action to a wildfire quickly burning its way along barely accessible terrain in Montenegro near the border with the Republic of Croatia above the border crossing at Karasovići.

On the 20th of August at 16:00, a request to the Fire Operations Center for two Air Tractors was filed. The equipment was necessary to control and extinguish the fire on otherwise inaccessible terrain.

JVP Konavle took tracked and controlled the fire in this area until 19:15. The fire was then reportedly extinguished several hours later during the night.

This, just one in an extremely long series of fires Croatia has experienced this summer, could have been just as devastating as the ones we have already seen in Podgora and Split. Fortunately, no damage or injury has been reported.
