Wildfire Updates: Promina Fire Contained, Serial Arsonist Arrested in Knin

By 25 August 2017

All fires have now been contained.

Although fires at Promina, Svilaja and Kistanje have not been localised yet, according to Šibenik's 112 Centre, the situation is under control, Index.hr reports on August 25, 2017.

“The situation is relatively calm this morning. The fires at Promina, Svilaja and Kistanje have not been put out or localised yet, but the smoke and the soot are no longer problematic. Our firefighters are on the field, fighting smaller fires, but people and houses are no longer in danger,” Šibenik-Knin County 112 Centre spokesperson said.

In Kistanje, the fires that are still active include the fire next to the water tower, and fires in the villages of Bjelanovići, Ležajići, and Macure, but they are expected to be localised soon.
There are no longer hold-ups on any roads, HAK reports.

ŠibenikIN reports that another person has been arrested in Šibenik-Knin County, and, unlike all other fire-related arrests, this is the only case where the suspect will be charged with multiple offences because it is believed that he is a serial arsonist. He is suspected of causing ten fires up until Tuesday night, when he was arrested.

Almost every other person arrested for causing fires in Šibenik-Knin County is mentally ill, or, as is the case in the latest arrest, is a serial arsonist. Šibenik police have confirmed that the suspected arsonist is a citizen of the Republic of Croatia.

Criminal charges for causing fires in Šibenik-Knin County will be filed against 15 people, which is a huge number considering the fact that a total of 16 have been filed in the entire county so far.
