Chaotic Morning in Dubrovnik as Bura Forces Bridge Closure and Flight Delays

By 7 October 2017

The infamous bura wind makes its return to the Pearl of the Adriatic in its usual, brutal style.

As Dubrovacki Dnevnik reports on the 7th of October, 2017, a stormy bura wind struck Dubrovnik-Neretva County last night and continued to attack with gusto throughout the night and into this morning.

112 Dubrovnik received a larger number of calls from concerned citizens as the infamous wind took its toll on the city's infrastructure.

Due to the uncalming, strong winds, Dubrovnik's Franjo Tudjman Bridge was closed for all vehicles until 09:05 this morning.

Early this morning, a motor home was overturned on the bridge, which was why the police intervened, but the biggest problem was with the disadvantaged drivers who, in spite of the traffic ban, still continued to drive across the bridge.

Concerned citizens reported the fall of three trees due to the high winds, one in Dubrovnik, one in Cavtat and more on the main road from Slano to Trsteno, on smaller, local roads. There were several reports of large waste disposal containers having been overturned too.

Several scheduled flights due to arrive at Dubrovnik Airport have been delayed and even cancelled due to safety issues. A stalled morning flight to the capital of Zagreb delayed departures bound for Nantes and Stockholm and arrivals from Istanbul, Zagreb and Venice.
