Heavy Rain Hits Rijeka, City Centre Flooded

By 22 October 2017

A rainstorm hit Rijeka earlier today, around 4 in the afternoon. What started as a light drizzle quickly turned into torrential rain, and the city centre now stands flooded, reports Novi list on October 22, 2017.

Školjić neighbourhood in the city centre currently has it worst, with flash floods running downhill along the road, causing traffic jams on multiple locations. Multiple vehicles got stuck at the bottom of the Franjo Rački street, trying to maneuvre their way out of the jam, but to no avail.

While heavy rain is no rare occurrence in Rijeka, the large amount of precipitations that the city experienced in a short amount of time led to significant damage in various facilities in the city. Both business establishment and apartment buildings have seen floods in many locations in the city, and the level of damage will not be known until tomorrow.
