Another refugee baby born in Slavonski Brod

As reported by SbPlus portal on February 2, 2016, a 30-year-old Syrian refugee gave birth to a healthy baby girl over the weekend at the General hospital in Slavonski Brod and decided to name her Croatia. Little Croatia weighed 4130 grams and there were no complications during delivery

Croatia's mum arrived at the hospital on Friday without a translator, but when everyone's favourite translator in Slavonski Brod Saleh Rida Sale arrived, he was able to inform the staff that this is her 7th child, she already has five boys and one more girl.

Syrian refugee said that she wanted to name her baby girl after our country because of the kindness she encountered here. „I want my baby girl to know where she was born and to remember it all her life,“ she said. Translator Saleh is the girl's godfather, so he will also remember this occasion for the rest of his life.

Since Slavonski Brod became a refugee / migrant transit centre in November 2015, 4 migrant babies were born at the Dr. Josip Benčević General Hospital. Baby Croatia and her family left the country on Sunday: „They would have left straight after the delivery, but we always try to keep them in the hospital at least until the baby receives the first vaccine. We can understand their hurry, because of them their entire family has to stay in Slavonski Brod and wait for the next train. They just want to continue going so that they can reach their final destination and start a new life" – member of the hospital staff commented.

We wish little Croatia and her family all the best, wherever their travels may take them.
