Incident at Slovenian Border: Man in Croatian Bus Claims to have Bomb

By 25 January 2018

An unusual incident at the border with Slovenia.

As Index writes on the 25th of January, 2018, the border crossing at Kaštel-Dragonja in Istria was closed from this morning because a man on a bus claimed to have a bomb.

As the Slovenian portal 24ur reports, the border crossing is now open once again and the police will hold a press conference on the matter at 14:00.

As the Radio Television of Slovenia reports, the border crossing in question was closed for all traffic since 08:30. Police from Koper suspected a criminal offense, and according to unofficial information, they checked whether or not there was a bomb in a bus belonging to Črnja tours that had been travelling to Rovinj.

Man claims to have had a bomb.

As appears on the Slovenian portal Primorske novice, the border crossing was closed after a man on a bus with Croatian license plates loudly claimed to have a bomb. The same portal reports that the police searched the bus immediately. They didn't find the bomb, but the man who threatened them was detained. The bus itself was then released.

Personal vehicles attempting to cross the border were diverted to the Sečovlje crossing.

"Since the investigation into the suspicion of a criminal offense is still ongoing, traffic has been closed in both directions for safety and security," the Slovenian police said.

Here at home, HAK stated that "the Kaštel border crossing was closed due to technical problems".
