24-year old woman arrested for arson on Korčula.
Unfortunately, with the continuation of hot and dry weather and despite yesterday's storms, fires all across Croatia are still raging. In Ponikve on Pelješac there is no more open fire anywhere near the houses, fire is now heading to the hills and apart from this fire location other fires are burning behind the villages of Janjina and Dačanj. The situation is currently under control, but firefighters are fearing any possible wind change because that would make their efforts even more difficult.
Along with devastating fires on Pelješac which have been active since the beginning of the week, new fires were reported on island Brač and Plomin in Istria.
Dubrovnik police reported that they have arrested a 24- year old female last night under the suspicion of starting 6 fires on island Korčula. According to the police report she is suspected of starting two fires along the road on July 21st after which she started another fire inside a cafe storage room. One day later at 11 am she used a lighter to light dry grass and shrubs but didn't stop there either, by the end of the day she started two more fires one next to a family home and again on the first floor of the house she was staying in.
Luckily, due to a swift reaction of the fire department and locals all fires were quickly localised.
