One Billion Kuna for Energy Renewal of Schools, Healthcare Facilities and More

By 5 September 2018

Is more emphasis on energy efficiency on its way to Croatia's public sector facilities?

As Darko Bicak/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 4th of September, 2018, a new tender for energy efficiency projects for public buildings was launched earlier this week. More than a billion kuna from European Union funds have now been made available in the new aforementioned tender, which focuses on the renewal of public energy.

Namely, as Predrag Štromar stated, this vast amount of money is intended for the numerous energy renewal projects of schools, kindergartens, healthcare facilities, and so forth. The call for energy renewal and the use of renewable energy sources in public sector buildings was announced at the end of 2017, and applications were being taken at the beginning of this year.

There has been 380 million kuna made available from the European Regional Development Fund under this scheme.

Due to the significant level of interest of potential applicants, the total amount of grant applications requested in the short term reached 200 percent of the total available funding of 380 million kuna, and the call was therefore temporarily suspended on February the 5th, 2018.

A total of 448 applications were received and the requested amount of grants amounted to 813.5 million kuna. On July thr 26th, 2018, the decision on the increase of that monetary allocation was issued, whereby the total available amount of grants for allocation under this call increased from 380 million kuna to more than an eye-watering 1 billion kuna in the name of energy renewal.
