Expensive New Police Equipment Ready For Several Croatian Cities

By 2 October 2018

An almost 40 million kuna investment for MUP.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 2nd of October, 2018, at certain locations, the containers for the brand new police radars will also be equipped with speed measuring devices, and in other places, empty containers will be placed in order to fool unsuspecting drivers breaking the speed limit.

The Ministry of the Interior (MUP) has said it has acquired speed gauges, so-called ''radars'', on which they estimate they will spend up to 39.4 million kuna. The Croatian police will buy 75 fixed-speed automatic systems and 150 box containers, which will be mounted on pillars along the roads in several Croatian cities.

Within the scope of this particular procurement, the police also purchase 100 hand-held speed measuring devices, intended for outdoor use during both daylight and in the dark, as well as in low visibility conditions, according to a report from Novi list.

Within the aforementioned estimated purchase price, totalling 39.4 million kuna, the police have also acquired 50 stationary speed measurement systems. Unlike the aforementioned stationary units mounted on pillars along the side of the road, these others devices are able to be shifted to various locations in which traffic control operations have been planned by the traffic police, if necessary.

In the coastal part of Croatia, these ''radars'' will be deployed by the police from Zadar (7 units and 13 casings), Šibenik (7 units and 12 casings), Dubrovnik (6 units, 12 casings), Split (three units, eight casings) Pula (five devices, ten casings) and also by Gospić police (six devices, 12 casings).

In the continental part of Croatia, the installations will be located in Virovitica (five units, 10 cases), Koprivnica (five units, 10 casings), Zabok (four devices, eight casings), Varaždin (two units, four casings), Čakovec (four devices, eight casings), Sisak (four devices, eight casings), Vinkovci (four devices, eight casings), Osijek (two units, four casings), Bjelovar (four devices, eight casings), Sisak (four devices, eight casings), Vinkovci (four units, eight casings), Slavonski Brod (four units, eight casings), and Požega (three devices, seven casings).

The fixed devices to be placed along the side of the road will be installed in the period between now and 2020.
