"We celebrate peace with dignity. This is a day of victory, veterans and peace. This is a celebration of freedom and security. Yesterday, our armed forces celebrated majestically with dignity all over Croatia. Today, we continue, this is the Homeland Thanksgiving Day, we celebrate our freedom, peace and safety. The Operation Storm enabled us to do this", said Gotovina.

Asked to comment the fact that many young Croatians are leaving Croatia, while today there are many young people on Knin streets, Gotovina said that Croatians should be optimistic. "It does not matter that they left, because they will come back", said Gotovina.

"Young people will get to know the world and they will come back. Croatia's victory in the war laid the foundations for a house of democracy, where we all have the same rights and obligations", said Gotovina asked whether on this day people should talk about those who fled before the Operation Storm.

When asked if today's Croatia is the one he wanted 20 years ago, he didn't respond affirmatively, but said that we are on the right track.
