Nik Titanik Picks His Top 5 Caricatures in 25-Year Career

October 11, 2019 - With over 11,000 caricatures over 25 years Nik Titanik's work has achieved iconic status in Croatia, but which are the artist's personal top 5 caricatures of his career? His biting political satire is equal to the quality of his artistic talent, and the caricatures of Nikola Plecko, aka Nik Titanik, have entertained the Croatian public for quarter of a century. Plecko's work has long been recognised on the national level, and an exhibition at Mimara in Zagreb to celebrate the first 25 years of his work (and with more than 300 pieces on display) opened last…

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Lucija Spiljak writes on the 11th of October, 2019, in fifteen years, one Zagreb-based company has grown from a small team in an apartment building into a respectable team of experts dedicated to developing and innovating their own Internet of Things (IoT) technology products. They create solutions that are used in automatic energy consumption reading systems. The Zagreb-based company Holosys boasts more than twenty products used in automatic water and energy readout systems, water and gas infrastructure monitoring and energy efficiency monitoring systems, which are marketed in various infrastructure facilities both here in Croatia and abroad. MUP Varazdin: Celebrating Croatian Bureaucratic Excellence - Yes, Really!

October 10, 2019 - Croatia is not known for its efficient bureaucracy, but let's celebrate the exceptions, such as MUP Varazdin.  My record with Croatian bureaucracy is poor, and I dread all contact with officialdom here, for more often than not you are sentenced to an afternoon of being sent from room to room, waiting for hours and then being told you are missing a piece of paper and to try again tomorrow. For years, my wife took pity on my 'I am a useless foreigner who can't speak the language' look and heroically became a buffer zone between the…

Popovac Primary School, a Creative Beacon of Hope in Baranja

October 9, 2019 - It is tucked away (very neatly) in an almost forgotten part of eastern Croatia, but Popovac Primary School in Baranja is a truly remarkable institution.  One of the things I love most about running Total Croatia News is the randomness of my inbox. Yes, there is lots of abuse from people who object to an article or two that I write (but I am learning to accept and appreciate the abuse as the years go by), but people from all walks of life and all over Croatia (and beyond) contact me for a number of Croatia-related…

Croatian Dogma Socks Ready to Conquer Foreign Markets

As Novac/Vid Baric writes on the 4th of October, 2019, some Croatian socks, more specifically from the Dogma Socks brand from Samobor, are ready to take on foreign markets. ''The idea came before my departure for the Olympics. I wanted to make sports socks that I'd perform in when in Sochi, and that was relatively easy for me, considering that my family has owned a sock factory for thirty years, which, admittedly, aren't socks for sports, but for everyday life. I made these socks, took them to the Olympics, and then went on to develop my own brand. I didn't…
