Moving Vegetables: Hvar Beetroot Makes Borscht in Southern Russia

July 7, 2019 - The Croatian culture of moving vegetables goes global as never before, with the first Hvar beetroot used in homemade borscht in Pyatigorsk in southern Russia.  Life as a Dalmatian zet (son-in-law) is not easy.  Don't get me wrong, I have the best parents-in-law in the world, and they have been VERY accommodating over the years of this weird fat, pink English bloke their daughter dragged up from somewhere.  It is just that there are some fundamental differences in basic things. Like vegetables, and moving vegetables.  As a boy from Manchester, it is no secret that our…

Magnets and Souvenirs with Austrian Motifs Made in Slavonia

A touch of Slavonia, Croatia in Austria. As Poslovni Dnevnik/Lucija Spiljak writes on the 4th of July, 2019, there are many souvenirs that tourists buy during their stay in the Austrian capital of Vienna, such as refrigerator magnets embellished with the most famous Austrian tourist attractions such as the Schönbrunn Palace. It might be easy to imagine the Chinese churning out endless supplies of these small but meaningful little keepsakes, but many are actually made by a Croatian entrepreneur, Zoran Bašić, from Trnjani in Slavonia. In Trnjani, an Eastern Croatian region of Slavonia, lie the production plant and the headquarters…

Croatian Technology Companies Aren't as Young as They Appear

As Bernard Ivezic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 27th of June, 2019, given the fact that we're currently living in the fast-paced era of start-ups, the growth of technology companies in Croatia may seem surprising. However, these companies aren't as young as they might first appear, and the most famous Croatian "start-up" is actually a company which is completing its first decade of operations. Mate Rimac's company Rimac Automobili was founded in 2009, and today it boasts more than 500 employees. That same year, the secretive Satoshi Nakamoto conceived what we now know today as Bitcoin, Trump's forerunner, Barack Obama, became the…

By far…

VIDEO: Rimac's C_Two Featured in Popular Computer Game!

One of Croatia's most inspiring success stories is that of Mate Rimac, by far.  Rimac, an unassuming man in his thirties from Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, appears to have done what little to no other people manage to do in Croatia, and his progressive way of thinking as a daring and innovative entrepreneur has seen his company reach heights of success that not even he could have imagined in his wildest dreams when first starting out. The Rimac Concept_One was once proclaimed the world's fastest electric car, and what is most surprising of all, as that these truly incredible electric…

Croatian Company Without Own Office Creates Software for NASA, eBay...

As Novac/Filip Pavic writes on the 16th of June, 2019, Gembox and Testdome, two Croatian sister IT companies, aren't unique just because their software is used by the likes of NASA, Microsoft, Verizon, UEFA and eBay, but also because they're the only Croatian startups who don't even have their own office, and according to them, that's actually intentional. Both Croatian companies were founded by Željko Švedić, he's the owner and founder of Gembox, and he's the co-owner of Testdome with the director Mario Živić. These two Croatian companies are the pioneers of the new international IT trend, which encompasses so-called…
