War Veterans Ministry Distances Itself From Envoy's Statement

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - The Croatian War Veterans Ministry on Sunday distanced itself from its envoy Matko Raos' statement, made at an event marking the 31st anniversary of a Croatian Defence Forces (HOS) unit in Split, when he said that "today's Croatia would not exist if there had not been for 10 April 1941." On 10 April 1941 the establishment of the Nazi-allied Independent State of Croatia (NDH) was proclaimed. Express Train Service to Connect Osijek, Bjelovar and Zagreb as of December

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - The Croatian Rail (HŽ) company will introduce an express train between Osijek and Zagreb via Bjelovar as of this December, and will soon introduce low-floor trains on the Zagreb-Bjelovar-Virovitica route. This is the outcome of a recent meeting between Bjelovar-Bilogora County Prefect Marko Marušić and HŽ Putnički Prijevoz (HŽPP) executives. In 2021, 120,398 passengers boarded trains at railway stations in this county, a 5% rise from 2020, it was said during the meeting, held in Bjelovar, at which Marušić also requested more favourable train ticket prices for locals. Ombudswoman: 80% of Femicide Victims Killed by Persons Close to Them

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - In 2021, 14 women were killed, which is fewer victims than in 2020, however, 80% of them were killed by persons close to them, which is an increase and women continue to be the most frequent victims of domestic violence, Gender Equality Ombudswoman Višnja Ljubičić said in her annual report. Croatia Has One of Best Waste Tire Recycling Systems in EU

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - Croatia has one of the best waste tire recycling systems in Europe, with more than 90% of used tires being used for materials recovery, which is above the national target of 80%, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund has said. Using tires for materials recovery results in the production of rubber granulate, textile, steel and rubber chips. They are also used to make products such as rubber flooring for playgrounds, paths, walkways and running tracks. Croatia Logs 515 New Coronavirus Cases, 10 Deaths

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - In the last 24 hours 515 coronavirus cases, out of 3,127 tests, and ten related deaths have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Sunday. There are 6,738 active cases, including 525 hospitalised patients, 25 of whom are on ventilators, while 4,812 persons are self-isolating. Croatia has registered 1,109,066 coronavirus cases to date and the death toll is 15,685. To date, 59.45% of the population, or 70.72% of adults, have been vaccinated, including 68.62% of adults who are considered fully vaccinated. Croatia Could Join OECD in Three Years

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - Croatia has adopted the fewest relevant standards of the six current candidates for accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and its chief negotiator Gordan Grlić Radman believes talks could be completed in two and a half to three years. The OECD formally launched accession talks with six candidate countries on 25 January. Fewer and Fewer Croatian Graduates Find Work in Their Field, Survey Shows

ZAGREB, 10 April 2022 - Fewer and fewer university graduates in Croatia find their first job in their field, while the number of graduated students who found work in the public sector has increased, a survey has shown. The survey of employability of students who graduated in the academic year 2018/2019 was carried out by the Agency for Science and Higher Education, covering 16% of students who completed their studies in Croatia in 2019.
