ZAGREB, Dec 13, 2020 - Croatian airports have reported sharp declines in the numbers of passengers and flights and the amounts of cargo handled in the first 11 months of 2020 as a result of the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic, related travel restrictions and lower demand for air travel. Statistics posted on the airports' websites show that all the airports have been in the red since March, with slightly higher turnovers from June to the end of September, but still considerably lower than in the same months of 2019. The country's largest airport, Zagreb's Franjo Tudjman Airport, registered 883,300 passengers…

Move Over Istria: Truffle Hunting Now Available in Dalmatia

December 12,  2020 - Once the sole preserve of Istria,  Croatia's truffle hunting options are expanding - first Zagreb and now Dalmatia. I love the randomness of life in Croatia.  A wonderful country there the unexpected is always around the corner.  An invitation to go truffle hunting in the forests outside Zagreb a few weeks ago piqued my curiosity. Truffles and Zagreb? Really?!? Oh, yes, but not only that. It seems that Turopolje truffles (the region which includes Velika Gorica by the airport) have long been an established tradition for those in the know - for years, apparently, these Turopolje…

The Zagreb Truffle Revolution Continues: Meet the Truffle Praline

December 11, 2020 - First we discovered that there are truffles near Zagreb, then we tasted truffle strukli (delicious), and now... meet the Zagreb truffle praline.  One of the things I love most about this 'job' is that every day is different, and things rarely turn out the way I envisage, quite often opening the doors to new discoveries and hidden gems. A recent trip as guests of Sveta Nedelja is a case in point - previously I had thought of it as just an industrial town near Zagreb, which was the home of Rimac - how wrong I was.  …

December 11, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Air France reduces Paris-Zagreb in December. Croatian Aviation reports that French national carrier Air France has reduced the number of weekly flights between Paris and Zagreb this month. Although Air France originally planned to operate more frequently to Zagreb in December this year, this is not the case. December 10, 2020 - One of the best way to discover the hidden outdoor treasures of Croatia is through the adventures of Outdoor Croatia. Today, kayaking to the leper island of Gubavac.  One of the many unusual facts about Croatia is that it is the birthplace of quarantine.
