Ex Yu Aviation writes on May 21, 2019, that the highly anticipated rail project connecting Split Airport with the Split ferry port should commence in June.  "Our goal is to connect the ferry port with the airport. We are aware that traffic has doubled in the past ten years. We are working on the project connecting the city to the airport and we hope to begin the design and realization process in the next few years. It will involve the construction of a seven to nine kilometer railway,” said Nino Vela, Split’s Deputy Mayor.  Recall, just last week, Vela also announced…

Sea Star Festival in Stella Maris lagoon in Umag seems like a perfect invitation to kick start summer on a stunning location, with world-renowned artists and outstanding production. This is not the first time the festival will be held, and the first two editions have managed to charm the numerous audience, as well as the international and regional performers. Run Croatia, a Healthy Tourism Success Story and Model

May 20, 2019 - One step at a time - and there have been many steps - a new segment of Croatian tourism is taking hold. Taking a closer look at the fabulous Run Croatia story.   It is about three years since I first met a very energetic young lady called Iva Hafner, who had a passion for running and wanted to turn Croatia into a run-friendly destination. Although I have run two marathons in my life (yes really, although some 30 years ago), I must confess that I did not pay too much attention to the idea at the…

Many Croatian Hotels Lower Prices by 10 to 35 Percent

“Hot price! Discounts up to 35 per cent! Last minute - 10 per cent discount.” These are the main messages on websites of Croatian hotels in recent days. Many of them offer discounts and last-minute deals with the reduction of prices between 10 and 35 per cent not just for the preseason period, but for the main season as well, reports Jutarnji List on May 20, 2019. The largest hotel providers – Valamar Riviera, Plava Laguna, Liburnia Riviera, Bluesun – have all offered special prices as early as May, while last year they did it only at the start of…

Life as a Game of Thrones Tour Guide in Kings Landing, Dubrovnik

May 20, 2019 - An early start for TCN's Ivana Sepak this morning, as she attended the exclusive screening of the final Game of Thrones episode in Dubrovnik. I caught up with Ivana over the weekend to learn more about being a GoT guide.  End of an Era Is it possible? After 8 seasons and 8 years of being present on TV, Game of Thrones is becoming a part of history. The plot thickened, at the time of writing these lines, we still do not know who the conqueror of the elusive Iron Throne will be, who’ll become the ruler…

SightRun App Enhanced by Three New Destinations - Rovinj, Omiš and Hvar

As Goran Rihelj writes for HRTurizam on May 19, 2019, if we want to extend the tourist season, then we have to rely on diverse, authentic and quality content and offers, which do not depend solely on the sun, sea or swimming. This is only logical, because if we leave the sun and the sea as the primary motive for arrivals, what else remains?  Thus, we must ask the following questions: Why would someone come to Croatia when they cannot swim? What other content is there? What will work outside of the season? Why should tourists visit Croatia? Most importantly,…

Split Welcomes 60th Cruise Ship this Year, At Least 224 To Go

The fact that we are edging closer to the heart of the tourist season is evident by the number of cruise ships entering Split’s city port. Namely, on Sunday, two cruise ships sailed into Split, both under the Panamanian flag, and both under the cap of MSC Krstarenja. Their Musica and Sinfonia cruisers brought thousands of guests to the city over the weekend, albeit only on a one-day excursion, as they sailed off at 6 pm, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on May 19, 2019.  The Musica ship can accommodate 2,550 guests, while the Sinfonia carries one hundred more. Apart from the…

May 20, 2019 - The day has finally come, the final episode of Game of Thrones. TCN is in Kings Landing for an exclusive screening in Dubrovnik.  Is it possible? After 8 seasons and 8 years of being present on TV, Game of Thrones is being consigned to history. The plot has thickened, at the time of writing these lines, we still do not know who will be the conqueror of the elusive Iron Throne, and who will become the ruler of the 7 kingdoms. Is it possible? After 8 seasons and 8 years of being present on TV, Game of…

PickApp Hvar, a New Uber Style Taxi Option with Great Prices

May 19, 2019 - Meet PickApp Hvar, an Uber-style app which ushers in a new era for taxi travel on Croatia's premier island - 45% cheaper and 100% transparent. One of the things I love about technology and Croatia is that the days of certain ripoffs, which have long been in place, are slowly coming to an end. The digital tourist has much wider choice these days, and technology is being used to bring a higher level at cheaper prices to the end user.  Nowhere is this more true than in the taxi scene, in Croatia and elsewhere. My aversion…
