The CDC raised its travel recommendations to “level 4, very high” and told Americans that they should avoid traveling to those five countries. "Avoid travel to Croatia. If you must travel to Croatia, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel," the CDC said. The CDC encourages travelers to be fully vaccinated before travel,…

Croatia Through the Eyes of a Digital Nomad: Fall Means its Bučijada Time!

October 4, 2021 - Americans say pumpkin, Croatians say bundeva. Americans eat pumpkin pie, Croatians eat bučnica. How a simple pumpkin festival reminded me to embrace cultural traditions and remember that finding what’s new and different is why we travel.  At a recent meetup for digital nomads in Zagreb, one of my colleagues mentioned the annual bučijada (pumpkin festival) starting the following day in Ivanić Grad, a town roughly 45 minutes outside of the capital. I squealed with delight. I love eating pumpkin in various forms and the pie (specifically, my mother’s creation) is one of my all-time favorite foods.…

Croatian Winter Tourism in 1990: Full of Life! Tour Rep Interview

October 4, 2021 - As the Adriatic coast slowly prepares for its winter hibernation from tourism, some fascinating insights from a UK tour rep in the 1980s, an era when Croatian winter tourism was very much full of life. Could it be again?  There was plenty of lively social media debate in response to the latest TCN editorial this weekend - Could Digital Nomad Concepts Solve Croatian Winter Tourism Problem? While Croatia has excellent tourism numbers in summer, the Adriatic coast almost shuts down in the winter, with an impact not just on its tourism offer, but also the quality of…

So Long, Ferragosto! More Italians in Croatia in September Than August

October the 4th, 2021 - Ferragosto is typically ''celebrated'' by Italians in Croatia during the blisteringly hot month of August, and whether or not the coronavirus pandemic has changed this habit, or something else has altered, there were more Italians in Croatia in September this year. As Novac/Jutarnji/Barbara Ban writes, the Croatian travel company Croatia Luxury Rent recorded an increase the arrivals of Italians in Croatia during the month of September. This is an increase of three percent when compared to August, which they say was one of the most successful months for Croatian tourism in the last few seasons.…

Croatian Visa Free USA Travel Might Boost Trade, But Issues Remain

October the 2nd, 2021 - Croatian visa free USA travel has finally been announced after years and years of waiting. As of December the 1st this year, Croatian passport holders will no longer require visas to enter the USA, and this is more than likely to further boost trade between the two countries. That said, issues of course remain. As Tomislav Pili/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Croatian visa free USA travel, which, according to the US Administration, will begin in December, will improve Croatia's economic co-operation with the world's largest economy, but the main obstacle - double taxation - remains an enormous…

Zagreb Rapid Antigen Test: Results in 16 Minutes, Price 150 Kuna

October 1, 2021 - Where to find an affordable, walk-in Zagreb rapid antigen test with almost immediate results? Can we beat 16 minutes and 150 kuna? A year ago, the only thing I seemed to write about was coronavirus. Providing life updates and several daily articles on such a depressing topic was pretty soul-destroying at times. And while the comprehensive corona coverage continues on TCN, I have largely tuned out of the latest situation, leaving it to my capable colleagues to handle.  Being fully vaccinated, I encounter few restrictions, and I have not kept up-to-date with the latest developments on…
