Anti "Uhljeb" Protest in Split on Tuesday

By 14 May 2016

Want to join? The protest will be held in front of the Split City Hall on May 17, starting at noon.

Even though we still cannot agree on the exact translation of the word "uhljeb" (people that have landed cushy state jobs through family relations would be the broad explanation), we have written countless articles and editorials about this group of people. On Tuesday, May 17, the very first anti-uhljeb protest will be organised in Split by an independent list called "Dišpet" (Spite).

The protest will take place during the Split city council assembly in front of the city hall and the number of associations supporting the protest is growing by the minute. So far Dišpet was joined by the Croatian association Benedikt, Croatian association of workers unions, MOST for Split, members of the association Merjan, owners of land located in Spinut and numerous other associations in the area. Protest will start at noon and its aim is to show the people's discontent with the work of the city administration because of political “uhljebs” that are not doing their job and getting paid handsomely for their lack of effort.

According to the organisers, the trigger for this protest are the 5 main characteristics of uhljebs, so called 5 Ne: Incompetence (nesposobnost), inaction (nerad) no transparency (netransparentnost), inefficiency (neefikasnost) and irresponsibility (neodgovornost).

The protest is held under the slogan "When injustice becomes the law, resistance becomes your duty".
